ARTICLE XIX - Rehiring of Retired College Faculty

Key points are:

A bargaining unit member who has officially retired from STRS may apply and be considered for rehire at the college according to the following guidelines:

  • Must be qualified for the position.

  • Will be considered as an external candidate.

  • If selected, the retiree will:

    a) be compensated in the same manner as any new-hire from outside the college;

    b) be eligible for the same salary adjustments as other faculty;

    c) not accumulate seniority;

    d) not be eligible for sick-leave payout upon subsequent retirement;

    e) accumulate sick leave from date of re-hire;

    f) only receive one-year probationary contracts (not eligible for non-probationary contracts);

    g) be eligible for life insurance according to current policy;

    h) contribute to STRS;

    i) be required to follow all standard new-hire procedures.

     

  • No commitment regarding intent to rehire may be made to a retiree until the conclusion of the search process to fill the vacant position.
