ARTICLE V - Negotiations

This Article outlines the framework for our next at-the-table negotiations that will occur beginning as early as Winter/Spring terms of 2011.

Key points are:

  • (5.01) – starting negotiations

  • (5.02) – how negotiation sessions will be handled

  • (5.03) – time limits for negotiation sessions

  • (5.04) – size of each negotiating team (maximum of 6 for each side)

  • (5.05) – restrictions on speaking with the press during negotiations

  • (5.06) – actions to be taken upon agreeing to a new contract

  • (5.07) – what to do in case agreement cannot be reached.

  • (5.08) addresses an opportunity for both the College and NCSFA-AAUP to use an alternative method of bargaining rather than the traditional bargaining approach taken during our last negotiations. An example of such an alternative would be interest-based bargaining where the parties collaborate on solving problems jointly rather than negotiating in a traditional give/take approach.

In summary, Article V-Negotiations guides the college and the NCSFA-AAUP in the approach to our 2011 negotiations.
