Article VII - Governance
Key points are:
-
Shared governance is recognized
at ALL levels of the administration.
-
The primary avenue is the
Faculty Caucus to accomplish this shared governance.
-
When any Faculty Member, Chair, Division Dean, Academic V.P., or
College President is selected a search committee is
required that includes faculty participation.
-
Prior to opening a search for a new faculty member, the Division Dean
will confer with the dept/program faculty to assess the need to fill the
position.
-
Prior to any curriculum changes, faculty within the impacted program
will be provided the opportunity to provide input.
-
30 days prior to the start of a quarter, faculty may request class
assignments based on their qualifications and seniority.
-
Grade changes cannot be made by anyone other than the faculty member
who assigned the grade (barring malfeasance).
There are shared governance related issues throughout the contract where
faculty are provided rights to participate in certain decision making.
For example, Section 25.29 (Compensation Article) provides that
“Faculty Caucus, academic departments, and the Administration, will
establish course maximum guidelines to fit instructional effectiveness.”
Departments that have not participated in such decision making should
now initiate this discussion.
