The first three years of employment are probationary and are in the
form of three one-year contracts. The retention or release of
probationary faculty is at the discretion of the College and is not
grievable. A notice of non-renewal will be provided at least 45 days
before the probationary contract expires. In certain instances a
fourth probationary year may be offered.
-
Probationary faculty will have student evaluations administered in
each course each quarter of the first probationary year and then in
one quarter per year for the remaining two probationary years.
-
Probationary faculty will also have one classroom observation by the
Dean or designee each quarter for the first probationary year and
then in one quarter per year for the remaining two probationary
years.
-
All subsequent years of employment after the probationary period are
non-probationary and the contract length will be for three years at
a time. Any recommendation of non-renewal of a non-probationary
contract must be based on just cause and clear documentation must be
provided showing unsatisfactory performance. Further, evidence must
be provided showing the faculty member has been advised of the
situation, has been given assistance, time to improve, and has
failed to do so. The non-probationary faculty member will also be
notified no later than 90 days before the current contract expires.
-
Non-probationary faculty will have student evaluations administered
in all the faculty member’s classes at least one quarter per
three-year contract. Non-probationary faculty will also have one
classroom observation by the Dean or designee in the quarter
preceding the notification date for their contract renewal. These
evaluations are meant to be used for improvement of teaching.
-
For both probationary and non-probationary faculty, completion of
composite evaluation forms by supervisors will be done in the manner
described in Sections 9.03 and 9.05 on pages 18 and 19,
respectively, of the CBA.

When a faculty member resigns, no less than three months notice of
resignation should be provided to the College.
