FAQ #6 - Special Load Arrangements?

Q:    What should I do if approached to participate in a project that will require a special load arrangement?

A:    The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) section 21.07 provides faculty with the benefit of working on projects that require special load arrangements. Several faculty members are currently working under such arrangements. These arrangements include:

    • Entrepreneurship Initiative – ¼ load release per quarter (ongoing but to be evaluated at the end of the academic year)
    • AQIP – ½ load release per quarter (ongoing – agreement made prior to CBA)
    • CIS Planning/CAD Drawing – 1 load hour release (Winter Quarter only)

It is the responsibility of the administration to consult with the NCSFA-AAUP when making these special load arrangements. This is to assure equity as well as adherence to the language of the contract. The NCSFA-AAUP fully supports faculty participation in and compensation for special College-approved projects. When a special load arrangement is being proposed, the faculty member should notify their NCSFA-AAUP building representative or an officer of the union. This notification will help assure such agreements are fair and equitable in comparison to arrangements made in other academic divisions and departments.
