FAQ #1 - compensation for new course development Q: Do I get compensation for new course development? If so, how do I get my compensation for this activity? A: Yes. There is contract language that provides for compensation when new courses are developed. In fact, several faculty members who have developed new courses over the past year have benefitted from this contract language. The link below connects to an additional document, developed and agreed to by both administration and the NCSFA-AAUP that spells out what is expected for new course development, and how specific portions of that development are compensated. Use both the contract article (Section 25.13 and 25.14) and the linked document to help you get a handle on whatever new course development you have been involved in may qualify for compensation. Once you do that, contact your NCSFA-AAUP building representative as he/she needs to be in the loop before you talk with your dean about this. Once there is validation of what you have completed for this new course development, and you and the building representative are on the same page, then you should schedule a meeting with your dean to request compensation. If you want to have your union rep present for this meeting, please do not hesitate to say that. We have found that having NCSFA-AAUP representation on hand for these meetings may be beneficial to facilitate matters. If any snags in the process occur, either you, or your NCSFA-AAUP rep, need to contact the NCSFA-AAUP Contract Administrator (Jean Jones) just as soon as possible to expedite the matter. Remember: this contract language does NOT apply to Q2S course “conversion.” (Q2S became “real” after the 2008-2011 contract was negotiated.) This important matter is currently under discussion between the NCSFA-AAUP and the administration. |
